Description

These delicious garlic butter breadsticks are perfect for any meal!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (about 110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 teaspoons salt
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Bloom the Yeast: In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently, then let it sit for 5–10 minutes until the mixture becomes foamy. This step activates the yeast and gives your breadsticks that irresistible rise.
  2. Make the Dough: Add the melted butter, salt, and flour to the bowl. Stir until the dough starts to come together, then knead on a lightly floured surface for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic. If using a stand mixer, use the dough hook for 5 minutes on medium speed.
  3. First Rise: Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size. I like to set it in the oven (turned off) with the light on—it’s the perfect proofing spot.
  4. Shape the Breadsticks: Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a log shape about 7 inches long. Place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving space between each.
  5. Second Rise: Cover the breadsticks and let them rise again for about 30 minutes. They should look puffy and light.
  6. Bake: Preheat your oven to 400°F. Bake the breadsticks for 12–15 minutes or until lightly golden on top.
  7. Brush with Garlic Butter: As soon as they come out of the oven, brush them generously with the melted butter mixed with garlic powder and salt. The aroma alone is enough to gather everyone around the table.

Notes

  • Make sure the water is not too hot to avoid killing the yeast.
  • Feel free to add herbs or cheese to the dough for extra flavor.
