Description
A classic sloppy joe recipe made with ground beef, fresh vegetables, and a tangy sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb 80/20 ground beef
- 1 small onion, chopped fine
- 1 medium green pepper, chopped fine
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- ½ cup ketchup
- 2 teaspoons yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon canola oil
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Heat 1 tablespoon of canola oil in a large frying pan over medium-low heat. Sauté the chopped onions and green pepper for about 5 minutes, until they begin to soften.
- Move the onions and peppers to the outer edge of the pan and increase heat to medium-high.
- Spread the ground beef in the center of the pan and cook undisturbed for 5 minutes, or until the meat begins to brown.
- Season with salt and pepper, flip the meat, and continue cooking, breaking it apart into small pieces with a wooden spoon until no longer pink, about 2-3 minutes.
- Reduce heat to medium-low, then add ketchup, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and sugar. Stir and cook for another 2-3 minutes until the flavors meld.
- Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto buns (burger buns, brioche, or potato rolls work well). Serve and enjoy!
Notes
- This recipe can be doubled for a larger gathering.
- Add cheese or pickles to the buns for extra flavor.
